Poker Run

Postby BillR » Tue Jan 22, 2008 4:18 pm

Hi Folks,

We've scheduled the Poker Run for 10:30am Saturday morning 5/24/08. The last bike out will be at 11:30am. I'll need at least four people to assist at the field stations, punching cards etc.

How about some volunteers?

Hi Nate,

Thank you for the offer of help on the Poker Run.

The way it will work is that there will be four stations spread along the route. They are the plaza shops at Warm Springs, the city park in Maupin, the Ice Cream Parlor at Shanico and the Cafe at Antelope. We could add one more station if we could decide on one somewhere in the Reservation but it's not entirely necessary. If we stay with four field stops I suggest that we use the finish as the last station.

We still need three more helpers for the other stations.

Thank You
Bill R

Sounds good Bill, I'll have a load of questions for you though. I'm remembering that Tthe Rally will be at the Jeff.County fairgrounds, is that correct? I'll try and be at the next get-together in February. :?

Hey Nate,

One of the great advantages of this forum software is that questions asked by one provide answers to many.

Yes, the Poker Run will start at 10:30am. Folks like yourself who have offered to man, or woman, a station will leave the fairgrounds about fifteen minutes earlier. The drill goes something like this: You'll arrive at your station a few minutes before the regular participants. You will introduce your self to the proprietor and park your bike in a prominent location. A few minutes later the riders will arrive and you will use your punch to punch their entry card. You will continue to punch cards until someone arrives who says he or she is the last rider, at which you will pack up and follow that rider in. Once every one has made it back to the fairgrounds we will deal the hands based on the punched entry forms and the winner takes all. Sherry and I have done it and had a great time visiting with all the participants.

News has just come in that Tom and Donna, along with Jim and Joyce Are on board with both the poke run and the breakfasts.

That means that we have the breakfasts covered. We still need one more person or team for the Poker Run.

Thanks Folks

Nate, Dave and I rode the Poker Run Route yesterday just to meet the various proprietors of the businesses where we'll be setting up stations. We took this detour off of the official route to look over the abyss. This section of road will be part of Eldon's guided ride scheduled for Sunday.

We've added one more station at Walter's Corner just north of Wapinata.

The stations are:

The Plaza Shops at Warm Springs. We met Louisa Flores, the manager, who will be expecting Jim B on that Saturday.

Walter's Corner. Walter of Walter's Corner has participated in several poker runs through the Rose City Motorcycle Club. He will host the station to be manned by Nate.

Maupin City Park. Tom and Donna S. will team up at this, the shadiest of stations.

The End of the Rail Ice Cream Parlor in Shaniko. Owner, and Mayor of Shaniko, Goldie Roberts, will welcome Jim B. to set up right in front of the shop just West of her. There's a nice roof for shade. She has also offered her picnic table area just to the east for our use.

Rich Miller, owner of the Antelope Store and Cafe, will welcome Hall B to enjoy some marion berry cobbler while he checks in our riders.

That's it folks. I suppose we need to firm up the fee to ride the poker run. How about $5.00 for the first hand, $2.00 for the second. Each participant will get a card to be punched at the stations. Hands will be dealt back at the fairgrounds as soon as the participants finish the ride.

I've got to say the route looks great with some VERY spectacular scenery along the way.

Thanks
